POSITION

The Department of Marketing at CSU Fullerton invites applications for the position of Teaching Associates Pool. 

We welcome applications from current CSUF graduate students to teach in the subject area of Business Communication.

Well qualified graduate students are assigned Teaching Associate duties up to a maximum of 20 hours per week, and are assigned to work under the direct supervision of a faculty member in a course taught by the faculty member.  

Reappointment requires satisfactory performance evaluation, satisfactory progress in degree program, and agreement by home program/research advisor.

This is a pool of Teaching Associates for the department to draw on as necessary. ASSIGNMENTS ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MAY BE OFFERED COURSE ASSIGNMENTS ON VERY SHORT NOTICE. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under guidance of Business Communication faculty, Teaching Associate duties may include the following:

  • Providing classroom instruction
  • Preparing course materials and administering assignments to students
  • Administering examinations, grading student work and otherwise assessing student performance, and determining course grades
  • Holding scheduled office hours
  • Meeting the expectations of TAs for the specific course, as established by the Business Communication Program and supervising faculty member

Teaching Associates are expected to participate in training and support sessions related to teaching as provided by the Business Communication prior to initial assignment. Training will include instruction in active learning techniques, creating measurable assessments, and classroom management. Faculty will mentor Teaching Associates throughout the semester.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s (i.e. BA) degree in English or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
  • Currently enrolled or admitted to a CSUF Master’s degree program. (Students enrolled in credential programs must also be enrolled in a graduate degree program.)
  • Evidence of strong writing skills (coursework or other evidence)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of English Composition basics (argumentation, logic, writing style).
  • Potential to instruct and evaluate students effectively.

COMPENSATION

All Teaching Associate appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers.   

Classification Range: $3,245 to $7,598 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $5,200

The full-time monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the time base assigned.
