(Job #546626) Student Services Professional II, Dreamer’s Center Coordinator, Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 monthly. Hiring Range: $5,083 monthly. This is a temporary, full-time, benefited, exempt, 12-month pay position in the Center for Academic Excellence Dreamer’s Center. Position Summary:
The Coordinator of the Dreamer’s Resource Center - SSP II, in collaboration with the Dean of Students, provides support for the Dreamer’s Resource Center. The Coordinator supports innovative efforts to provide an integrated approach to identifying, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and practices directed toward improving student outreach and yield, academic success, leadership and professional development, inclusion and retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience, particularly for undocumented minoritized students. The Coordinator of the Dreamer’s Center collaborates with students, staff, and campus/community partners to implement training, programs, and services of the Center.
Key Responsibilities:
30% - Center Operations
- The Center Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the operation of the Dreamer Center’s academic success strategies, events, and facilitating and developing leadership development activities and assessment. The Coordinator will work closely with and participate in major programs and events with the other cultural centers and the Social Justice Equity and Inclusion Center. The coordinator will submit semester and annual program reviews and conduct assessments for quality improvement. The Coordinator will serve the diverse needs of the university community and will participate on appropriate university committees to foster and institutional climate supportive of the success of the students served by the center
- The coordinator will respond to students in crisis and need and make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources.
- This position will represent Cal Poly Humboldt to external community and governmental organizations. This position will/may be called upon as a resource in responding to sensitive equity, crisis, and individualized issues as they relate to undocumented students.
- Lead support of the Dreamer Center’s Student Staff
20% - Crisis Management and Lead Support
- The coordinator will respond to students in crisis and need and make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources.

- Lead support of the Dreamer Center’s Student Staff
20% - Academic Mentoring and Retention Support
- Lead in designing, implementing, and evaluating programs, workshops, presentations, academic success strategies, retreats, and socio-cultural education events for students. The Coordinator will provide academic mentoring and guidance for students participating in the Center, and oversee student assistants who run the center.
20% - Cultural Learning and Student Development
- Provide historical context, continuity, and knowledge to support programs that enhance students’ personal, socio-cultural and professional development and growth. Develop, implement and refine program activities with an emphasis on academics, career, professional development, sense of belonging, time management, effective communication, and holistic wellness. Coordinate and collaborate with academic units and campus community partners to provide a full range of academic programming that promotes the success of students served by the center.
- Participate in local, regional, state, and national organizations on student success and stay current on educational trends, studies and best practices on retention/completion strategies for students served by the center in relation to specific community needs.
- Communicate to students new opportunities, resources, programs, policies, and procedures at Cal Poly Humboldt. Promote student participation in sponsored events and activities designed to enrich and enhance their personal, cultural, and social wellbeing.
- Promote, educate, and stay current on issues of social and political impact on the undocumented community and the intersections between those identities and other marginalized identities and their impact on student success outcomes.
5% - Campus Resources and Outreach Support
- Lead efforts to promote resources and outreach with other units at Cal Poly Humboldt including (but not limited to), the Learning Center, Academic and Career Advising Center, Educational Opportunity Program, and Admissions. The coordinator will develop an ongoing relationship with cultural clubs, campus leaders, student associations, staff, and faculty connected to communities of undocumented or mixed immigration status.
5% - Other Duties as Assigned

- Ability to stay informed of changing immigration laws, policies, requirements, and protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience:
Possession of the below knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
Education:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Documented experience developing and coordinating programs and events.
- Demonstrated experience in creating an environment that fosters sensitivity, and understanding of the social, political, personal, and cross-cultural needs of the undocumented community and those of mixed immigration status.
- Bilingual or proficient in Spanish.
- Additional experience in higher education.
- Demonstrated success applying anti-oppression frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to apply power, privilege, and inequity concepts to create safe working environments.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with diverse populations of undocumented and mixed-immigration status communities.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with the laws, protocols, and policies of DACA.
- Competency in cross-cultural communication.
- Prior experience supervising college students.
- Experience with conflict management and diverse communication styles
- Skill in event coordination, budget management and advising grant writing.
