Fundraising and Special Events is continuously building a pool of applicants interested in hourly-intermittent temporary employment. Positions are appointed as needed through June 30, 2026 with the possibility of reappointment based on budget, operational needs, and job performance.
Under direct supervision, the Event Monitor supports the successful execution of events by assisting with event preparation, on-site coordination, vendor and client communication, and post-event follow-up. The incumbent ensures events run smoothly, safely, and in compliance with University policies, while delivering high-quality customer service to clients and guests.
- Job Duties
- Duties include but are not limited to:
- Attend assigned events and monitor activities to ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
- Conduct event set-up; receive and verify rental deliveries from vendors.
- Inspect event locations to ensure cleanliness, proper functioning of equipment, appropriate temperature settings, and accuracy of the setup.
- Serve as point of contact for clients during events; provide assistance, respond to questions, and ensure client satisfaction.
- Direct unauthorized groups (e.g., photographers, limos, onlookers) away from reserved event spaces.
- Coordinate with food service providers and vendors to adhere to event schedules; communicate changes as needed.
- Promptly report emergencies to appropriate authorities and inform the standby supervisor once the situation is under control.
- Gather post-event feedback from clients and vendors; submit an event summary for internal documentation.
- Respond to and select open shifts.
- Assist with office-based event preparation as needed, including compiling event brief materials.
- Review event details in advance to ensure readiness.
- Participate in required meetings and training sessions scheduled with consideration of staff availability including mandatory annual trainings as assigned.
- Submit monthly time sheets via the university’s MyCSUSTAN portal.
- Return University equipment and keys to University Events after each event.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma.
Experience: Minimum of one year of customer service experience.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of at least two years of college coursework (equivalent to 60 semester units) in hospitality, event management, communications, public administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience supporting event coordination, facilities setup, or customer service in a professional setting.
- Familiarity with basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to manage digital forms and timekeeping submissions.
- Prior experience working in a higher education or public sector setting is desirable.

- Thorough knowledge of customer service and working with the public.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills.

- May work indoors and outdoors in various temperatures and terrain.
- Access to email and the internet for communication is required.
- License or Certifications
- Valid California driver's license.

- Salary Range
- $20.00 per hour.
