Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) is committed to planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. Facilities Management provides oversight of university resources and assets and is responsible for the development of the University’s facilities including land use planning, capital improvement, project development, construction, as well as facilities operations and maintenance including custodial services, landscape services, building trade services, mechanical and electrical, and recycling services. We seek an exceptional individual to join our Financial Operations team as the Accountant II. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity. Under the direction of the CPFM Finance Manager, the Accountant II independently performs the full range of professional accounting work which requires a thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This Accountant II position focuses primarily, but not exclusively, on reporting, general ledger reconciliations, preparing/posting journal entries, revenue/expense reallocation and assists to prepare and track staff’s position budget models and projections. Supports the daily financial operations of the university’s capital outlay program and facilities management including all budgeting, accounting, and reporting systems associated with assigned projects. Utilizes CSUF Financial system (OBIEE) to generate various financial reports and analysis. Creates, modifies, and processes various query reports in CPFM’s Work Order System (TMA). Compiles, analyzes, and reports work order data. Maintains a comprehensive communications network within CPFM departments including Financial Operations, Service Center, Planning Design and Construction Management to facilitate administrative and financial activities. Works collaboratively with various campus departments including Budget Office, Contracts and Procurement, Accounts Payable, Travel, and Accounting Services. Other duties as assigned. |
Essential Qualifications |
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance or a closely related field OR a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience. Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); office methods and procedures; statistical and mathematical presentation of data; advanced proficiency with current word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems. General understanding of internal control methods. Working knowledge of federal student financial aid annual reporting requirements, and quarterly grant reporting requirements. Ability to apply accounting principles to the analysis of complex accounting problems; analyze and interpret accounting data; prepare clear, accurate financial statements and reports; utilize problem-solving techniques in finding solutions to complex accounting problems; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and principles; make decisions and recommendations regarding accounting activities; communicate effectively with others inside and outside the unit, including conveying technical information to non-Accountants. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. |
Preferred Qualifications |
Three or more years of accounting experience and has worked with Oracle, PeopleSoft, ERP, or an equivalent software system. Experience within the California State University (CSU) system or in higher education, as well as experience in governmental accounting. Familiar with the Compass system and TMA system. |
License/Certifications |
