Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated salary hiring range is $4,047 - $4,211 per month (Steps 1 – 3), commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The full salary range for this classification is $4,047 - $5,896 per month.
- This full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week) position is temporary and expected to end approximately 1 year from the date of hire.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary
The mission of the Human Resources Department at California State University, Fresno is to enhance the university community by attracting, retaining, and supporting a quality workforce in its effort to provide an excellent educational program for our students. Our Benefits Department oversees a comprehensive program of benefits that includes health, dental, vision, life, disability, personal insurance, tax-sheltered annuities, a fee waiver program, CSU, state, and Federal leave programs, and many other miscellaneous benefits.
Under the supervision of the HR Manager for Benefits, the incumbent performs a wide variety of administrative and technical duties in support of multiple Human Resource programs. The majority of work is operational, procedural, and administrative with duties covering operational, policy, and program support to effectively deliver service to new and existing faculty, staff, and administrators.
The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate and provide ongoing administrative support to the Human Resources Department in support of the Benefits program. Day-to-day work is performed independently within established procedures and workflows, with ongoing daily review and guidance provided by the Benefits Manager. Work is monitored through the completion of assigned processes, reports, and the overall accuracy of deliverables. The incumbent is expected to manage and prioritize daily tasks effectively while adhering to established routines, policies, and operational procedures. Assignments are varied and require applying and interpreting established policies, procedures, and desk manuals within defined guidelines.
Key Qualifications
- Knowledge of office methods, procedures, and standard practices, including principles of customer service.
- Working knowledge of general practices, policies and procedures of a Human Resources Benefits Department.
- Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate both orally and in writing
- Thorough knowledge of office systems and ability to use a broader range of technology, systems, and packages (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Google email and calendar, etc.)
- Skill/Ability to:
- Learn, interpret, and apply a wide variety of policies and procedures relating to benefits.
- Analyze data and make accurate projections using business mathematics and basic statistical techniques.
- Organize and plan work and projects including handling multiple priorities.
- Make independent decisions and exercise sound judgment.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the work group and serve as a liaison for the organizational unit.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills to serve as front-line contact while consistently providing quality customer service.
- Attention to detail and the ability to accurately draft and compose correspondence and standard reports and/or prepare and deliver presentations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with regard to sensitive written and electronic records.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students and the general public from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Education and Experience
- Completion of a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents.
- 3 years of related office work experience.
- 1 year in Human Resources Benefits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft Human Resources software.
- Knowledge of CalPERS benefits, leave and retirement programs, policies, practices, and procedures.
- Analyze & interpret data including benefit deductions.
- Two years in Human Resources Benefits.
- Demonstrated proficiency using common office automation software.
- Ability to address a wide range of problems which require interpreting policies and procedures and using ingenuity to develop practical, thorough and creative solutions.
