Police Officer or Police Officer Cadet in Chico
The Police Officer Cadet is a non-sworn trainee position that prepares incumbents for appointment as a sworn Police Officer. Cadets attend a P.O.S.T.-certified academy and complete required training to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for law enforcement service. Upon successful completion and at management’s discretion, Cadets may be appointed to Police Officer on a probationary basis. Cadets receive training in criminal and civil law enforcement, report writing, physical fitness, firearms use and maintenance, arrest and control techniques, and applicable laws and procedures. They are expected to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and community members from diverse backgrounds while fostering trust, credibility, and collaboration within the campus community. Appointments are temporary and typically do not exceed seven months. OR Under general supervision, Police Officers protect the University community by enforcing laws and campus regulations, responding to incidents, conducting investigations, testifying in court, and assisting the public. Officers apply progressive policing principles and maintain knowledge of search and seizure, probable cause, and criminal procedure. This position requires effective communication and collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and community members from diverse backgrounds while maintaining trust and positive community relationships.
