Position Summary
A technician position is available in the Nectow Laboratory at Columbia University in New York City. The Nectow Lab is comprised of scientists and engineers from diverse backgrounds exploring how the brain regulates energy balance. In general, we study the mechanisms through which the brain regulates how much food one eats and how much energy one expends. We also develop novel technologies to better understand brain function. We are currently looking for someone who will work with other lab members to help design and implement experiments critical to the lab, including molecular cloning, animal work, in vivo calcium imaging, and/or functional manipulations of neural circuits (e.g. optogenetics, chemogenetics).
Responsibilities

Assisting with the designing and implementing of experiments critical to the lab, which may include molecular cloning, animal work, in vivo calcium imaging, and / or functional manipulations of neural circuits (e.g optogenetics, Chemogenetics).

Perform laboratory experiments and collect data.

Contribute to research implementation.

Assist with ordering laboratory supplies.

Responsible for mouse colony maintenance and organization and genotyping.

Prepare solutions and reagents for daily lab use.

Calibration / upkeep of laboratory equipment.

Interact with personnel from other related research projects.

Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in one of the following (or related fields) is required: biology (neuroscience, molecular biology), engineering (biomedical, chemical), applied math, chemistry, computer science, and/or physics
