Position Summary

Columbia University’s Department of Pathology and Cell Biology invites applications for a Technician B. This individual will perform animal colony management and laboratory experiments, including flow cytometry, protein electrophoresis, western blotting, chromatography/sample pre-processing, and animal-based transfusion experiments. This also includes assay development for clinical laboratory tests, and bioinformatics analysis using R/Python.

Responsibilities

Perform lab experiments, including:

  • 15% Protein electrophoresis and western blotting
  • 15% Chromatography/sample pre-processing
  • 15% Bioinformatics analysis
  • 15% Performing animal experiments
  • 15% Animal husbandry
  • 15% Recording/analyzing data
  • 10% Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education, training and experience or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, highly organized, able to multi-task, take initiative, start and complete projects.
  • This position requires the technical ability to complete procedures and properly record and report results.
  • Applicants with experience in animal colony management and animal husbandry are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with flow cytometry, PCR, Western blotting, and/or recombinant DNA will be an advantage.
  • Programming in R or Python is preferred but not essential to start.
