Position Summary

The Columbia Mailman Office of Development and Alumni Relations is dedicated to facilitating relationships that support the School’s vision and mission, enabling progress toward a healthy and just world for all.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Institutional Giving and Operations, the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will play a key role in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts from corporations and foundations on behalf of Columbia Mailman.
Responsibilities
- Oversee corporate and foundation prospect research including identification, assessment and qualification, and prepare profiles, briefings and other essential background information for faculty, volunteers and staff.
- Plan and lead efforts to foster long-term relationships with strategically targeted corporations and foundations.
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 75 corporate and foundation donors and prospects and develop strategies that lead to solicitation and stewardship of major gifts and grants.
- Serve as a supportive and accessible partner to Columbia Mailman faculty, forging strong relationships and ensuring collaboration to facilitate their funding needs through corporate and foundation support.
- Build a strong network of collegial partnerships with development representatives across Columbia University to consult on needs, formulate proposal strategies, and identify potential corporate and foundation prospects and donors.
- Draft compelling proposals and other donor-facing materials for corporate and foundation donors and prospects.
- Manage the process of providing accurate and timely reports and other stewardship materials to corporate and foundation donors in partnership with the Senior Associate Director of Donor Relations.
- Actively maintain a current body of knowledge about Columbia Mailman’s programs, aspirations, and development priorities.
- Perform additional job-related responsibilities and duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience plus five years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressively responsible experience in fundraising for public health and/or higher education with a proven track record of success
Other Requirements
- Exceptional writing skills, including drafting all forms of donor correspondence, such as proposals, reports, briefs and emails.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Outstanding oral and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to interact effectively with internal and external constituents. such as donors, prospects, faculty, executive leaders and volunteers.
- Strong ability to organize, expedite, problem solve, and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion practices in a workplace environment.
