Position Summary
The Assistant Mechanic works alongside a Mechanic being trained to perform maintenance and repair functions as set forth in the Mechanic job description.
Responsibilities
- The Assistant Mechanic may be required to attend a two-year training and certification program to learn proficiency in mechanical skills to be administered by the University;
- During the training program, Assistant Mechanics will be tested periodically. Completion of all prerequisites in a two-year period will qualify the Assistant Mechanic for advancement to Mechanic at the end of the second year;
- Must become familiar with all applicable building licenses and certifications;
- Must provide current and updated home phone number;
- In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement may be required to respond to any emergency on a 24-hour basis, and may be required to work overtime;
- Assists Mechanic(s) in maintenance and repair functions;
- May perform tasks with minimal supervision as part of job training;
- Delivers tools and materials to job site;
- Sets up and takes down equipment; cleans and stores when work is completed; cleans up job site;
- As per Transport Workers Union, Local 241 collective bargaining agreement responsibilities to include: Repairs and Maintenance, Boiler Room (Excluding Power House), and Preventive Maintenance;
- Perform all related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED and/or the equivalent required.
- Must pass Mechanic Aptitude Test.
- Must be physically fit to do extensive walking, stair climbing, lifting (maximum of 50lbs.), moving heavier objects with assistive devices, and overhead work.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
- One year of experience in trades and/or technical discipline
- CFC certification is required
