The Center for Community Engagement to advance Scholarship & Learning (CCESL) reports to the Associate Vice Provost for Public Good Strategy and Research, prepares faculty, staff and students to contribute to the University of Denver (DU)s public good vision. CCESL’s mission is to activate university and community potential through partnership. Position Summary

As a full-time staff member, the Associate Director supports the mission of CCESL by working to develop, administer, evaluate, and manage curricular and co-curricular programs that promote community engagement. This position also serves a key function related to presenting to various departments and representing CCESL at on-campus events.

Essential Functions

The Associate Director of CCESL is responsible for:

Support Strategies and Actions to Build Institutional Capacity for Community Engagement

  • Develop and maintain relationships and communicate effectively with faculty, community partners, foundations, and alumni as needed.
  • Manage recruitment, application processes, implementation, and evaluation for community engagement initiatives serving faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
  • Facilitate relevant groups (e.g., Collective Impact Cohorts) and support the development of faculty-staff-student-community networks.
  • Work with other programs within the Office for Public Good Strategy and Research and other campus entities to advance university initiatives that promote community engagement.
  • Work with CCESL Executive Director to administer internal community engagement grants.

Oversee Student Programs

  • Create and maintain programs for students grounded in community engagement best practices, which may include programs connected to campus-wide initiatives such as Signature Work, 4D student experience, and others.
  • Mentor students through the facilitation of regular group and individual meetings to support students’ development of community engagement knowledge, skills, and commitments, as well as how to share their work publicly.
  • Implement student trainings, workshops, and dialogue events that are aligned with CCESL values and grounded in anti-oppression and antiracism.
  • In collaboration with CCESL Executive Director, oversee CCESL’s curricular offerings (e.g. courses, undergraduate certificate).
  • Teaching as appropriate.

Support Faculty Community Engagement Programs

  • With the Executive Director, support capacity building for community-engaged methods; assist faculty with development and implementation of community engagement opportunities by serving as a consultant and providing technical support.
  • With the Executive Director, organize programs to support faculty/staff using community-engaged methods and co-lead faculty/staff community engagement development opportunities; for example, facilitating faculty workshops or other trainings.

General Administrative Support

  • Co-facilitate weekly staff meetings; offer presentations, as needed, to campus departments and units, represent CCESL at DU community events.
  • Work with CCESL staff, such as Business Program Coordinator and Scholar Shop Coordinator, on event planning and execution as well as communications.
  • Supervise student employees
  • Contribute to program evaluation and assessment in collaboration with other CCESL staff, including data collection, management, and analysis related to monitoring and measuring impact of DU Grand Challenges and other student programs, events, and grants.
  • Work with CCESL Executive Director to pursue external funding for programs and on grant reporting for external student program support.
  • Working with CCESL Executive Director, co-lead regular reviews of program structures, recruitment processes, etc. to ensure alignment with CCESL values (e.g. anti-oppression review).
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Masters degree.
  • 5 years experience:
    • Developing and/or implementing student community-engaged programs.
    • Developing and/or implementing programs to support faculty use of community-engaged methods.
    • Managing or supervising personnel.
  • Providing support to programs that involve collaboration.
  • Applying diversity, equity, and inclusion principles to collaborations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in community-engaged teaching and/or community-engaged research/creative work.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

Work Schedule

The University’s administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Work schedule may vary.

In accordance with the University’s flexible work policy, this position is eligible to be considered for partial remote work. Further details regarding this plan will be determined with the hiring manager and are dependent on the division and team specific needs.

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $62,000 - $72,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
