AI Engineer - South Bank, QLD
Job no: 530459
Work type: Various work types
Location: Queensland
Categories: Data and Business Intelligence

At Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) our purpose is to 'open up the world for those who want to see'. Every day, we give people all around the world the opportunity to experience something amazing – travel!
We're building the AI systems that power smarter decisions across FCTG's global Supply business, and we're looking for an AI Engineer to join our Brisbane-based Data Science & AI team.
This is a hands-on engineering role working across the full AI lifecycle, from building and testing AI components to deploying production ML pipelines and agentic workflows. You'll work closely with Data Scientists (who hand validated models to you), Data Engineers, Architects, and Infrastructure Engineers to build AI systems that are reliable, observable, and built to scale.
We care about the depth and quality of your experience, not the number of years on a CV. Exceptional graduates and seasoned practitioners are equally welcome. Whether you've spent two years going very deep or moved across a range of problems, apply and show us what you've actually done! What matters is whether you can think carefully, work rigorously, and build things that hold up.
Day to day:
- Designing, building, and deploying AI workflows, including classical ML pipelines and agentic systems, in production environments
- Implementing and maintaining MLOps pipelines including CI/CD, model registry, monitoring, and automated evaluation
- Writing clean, well-documented Python code for AI system components, data processing, and API integration
- Supporting observability across ML and AI systems, logging, latency tracking, and evaluation metrics
- Containerising and deploying AI workloads using Docker and Kubernetes
- Collaborating with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Architects, and Infrastructure Engineers to integrate AI components into broader technology platforms
- Participating in code reviews, design discussions, and team knowledge-sharing sessions
You'll be perfect for the role if you have:
- A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Solid Python programming skills and a working understanding of core software engineering principles
- Exposure to machine learning, classical methods like supervised and unsupervised learning, and/or AI application development, whether through work, study, or personal projects
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and/or containerisation tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
- A working understanding of CI/CD concepts and version control using Git
- Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional teams
You'll earn brownie points with:
- Hands-on experience with Azure services or Databricks
- Experience building or deploying ML models in a production setting, regardless of whether that's classical ML or agentic systems
- Experience building data engineering pipelines using PySpark and Databricks
- Relevant Azure certifications (e.g. Azure AI Engineer Associate, Azure Data Scientist Associate)
- Experience with front-end technologies (e.g. TypeScript, React) or infrastructure tooling (e.g. Terraform, Bicep)
- Open-source contributions, personal GitHub projects, or published technical work
