A bit about the role
The Emergency Management Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the City of Casey's compliance with emergency management legislation and policies, including the Emergency Management Act 2013.
This position coordinates community engagement programs, builds partnerships with emergency services, and supports fire prevention and hazard-specific emergency planning.
Additionally, the role involves serving as Duty Municipal Recovery Manager (MRM) or Municipal Emergency Management Officer (MEMO) as required. The Coordinator works closely with internal and external stakeholders to enhance community resilience and leads the development and implementation of emergency management plans.
What you’ll deliver in the 12 months:
- Coordinate the planning, implementation, and ongoing continuous improvement of a range of projects and programs to ensure the City of Casey’s compliance with relevant legislation, polices and plans.
- Contribute to the team's mission to build a resilient Casey through planning and delivery of programs to enhance community’s preparedness for emergencies, including collaboration with internal and internal stakeholders.
- Work with community facility management teams to determine the feasibility of providing formal cool spaces for community during heatwaves.
- Work with the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) to undertake a comprehensive review and update of the Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP).
- Enhance the organisation's capability and capacity for recovery operations through creation of procedures to support staff working in recovery management.
- Serve as MEMO or MRM during emergencies, participating in a 24/7 on-call roster.
What you’ll bring
- Sound knowledge of contemporary emergency management practices and the Emergency Management Act 2013, State Emergency Management Plan, Country Fire Authority Act 1958 and Fire Rescue Victoria Act 1958 and their applicability to Local Government.
- Formal qualifications in the field of fire or emergency management or demonstrated substantial relevant experience.
- Experience in community engagement program development and evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects within budgets and agreed timelines.
- Excellent time management, decision making and problem-solving skills.
- A current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check, Functional Assessment (Medical/physio).
