A bit about the role 

Lead the development and implementation of innovative and practical urban design policies, frameworks, and strategies to enhance the liveability, character, and identity of the City of Casey.

You will oversee urban design projects, planning referrals, and place-making initiatives while coordinating with key stakeholders to ensure high-quality design outcomes across activity centres and public spaces.

What you’ll deliver 

  • Strategic Urban Design Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of urban design frameworks, master plans, and public realm strategies that align with Council objectives and planning policies.
  • Civic and Public Realm Project Delivery: Design, manage, and deliver civic improvement projects—including streetscape upgrades, plazas, and pedestrian connections—ensuring high-quality, sustainable, and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Project and Contract Management: Oversee complex urban design projects from concept to completion, including stakeholder engagement, budgeting, documentation, and consultant coordination.
  • Advocacy and Design Excellence: Champion design quality across Council projects, provide expert advice on planning referrals, and advocate for improved urban outcomes through collaboration and reporting.
  • Stakeholder and Community Engagement: Coordinate with internal teams, residents, developers, and contractors to ensure inclusive and effective engagement and consultation processes.
  • Compliance and Innovation: Ensure adherence to design standards, OH&S policies, and maintenance requirements while promoting innovation and efficiency in project delivery.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Provide guidance and supervision to senior and junior staff, support cross-departmental collaboration, and contribute to a positive, high-performing team culture.

What you’ll bring 

  • Tertiary qualifications/ degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture and/or Urban Design.
  • Substantial relevant experience as a Landscape Architect and/or Urban Designer with experience in urban design or placemaking.
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and deliver complex urban design strategies, policies, projects.
  • Ability to think holistically, considering options and implications at various decision points.
  • Skilfully apply influence to achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Advanced project and contract management skills.
  • Well-developed report writing skills.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
  • A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
