About the Role
The Senior Building Surveyor role is suited to a senior professional who is ready to move beyond a transactional focus and into a position with broader operational influence, where expert technical judgement, leadership and decision‑making capabilities are critical.
You will lead and resolve complex statutory building matters, supported by a collaborative team environment and a manager who understands the regulatory demands and responsibilities of senior building roles.
As a key leader within the service, you will provide authoritative technical guidance, mentor and develop your team and contribute to continuous improvement and best practice across the organisation. This role offers the opportunity to strengthen organisational capability while continuing to advance your own professional and leadership development.
What You’ll deliver
- Assess complex building permit documents and ensure compliance with the Building Act and Regulations
- Lead investigations, issue statutory notices, and manage enforcement matters
- Respond to dangerous building and public safety issues, including on call duties
- Support and mentor Building Surveyors, Inspectors and Cadets
- Act as Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor when delegated
What You’ll Bring
- VBA Registration – Building Surveyor Unlimited (no restrictions) – mandatory requirement.
- Strong municipal building experience and legislative expertise
- Proven leadership, sound judgement and confident decision making
- Ability to work collaboratively and positively with the community and stakeholders
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
