About the role
As part of our Rates and Valuations Team, you will be responsible for the collection of outstanding Council rates and debts in a professional, efficient, and sensitive manner.
This will include providing a high level of advice and assistance to customers in relation to rates and sundry debtor accounts, relevant guidelines and processes.

This is a limited tenure position to 31 December 2027
What you’ll deliver
- Recovery activities for overdue rates and sundry debtor accounts, ensuring actions are completed in accordance with Council policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
- Monitor overdue and long-term debt accounts, complete follow up actions and identify accounts that require escalation to ensure outstanding balances are actively managed.
- Administer and maintain approved payment arrangements, including monitoring payment compliance and updating arrangements as required
- Telephone and personal debt management matters, providing sound and accurate advice to solicitors and members of the public.
- Identify customers experiencing financial difficulty and refer them to appropriate hardship support options or escalated where required.
- Assist with processing and monitoring of payment plan schedules with ratepayers.
- Ensure the preparation of relevant accounts and correspondence including documents for legal action for recovery of overdue accounts.
- Assist with debt management administration tasks as required.
What you’ll bring
- Demonstrated experience and competence in a role involving debt recovery and negotiated outcomes.
- Understanding of legislation relating to the recovery of Rates within Local Government.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including negotiating appropriate payment outcomes in person and in writing
- Proven experience working a high-volume administrative role that requires effective time management and attention to detail.
- Excellent MS Office skills including experience in database management.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
