About the Role
As a Local Laws Officer, you'll play a vital role in protecting and enhancing the amenity, safety and liveability of the City of Casey. Working across the municipality, you'll investigate complaints, promote compliance with legislation and local laws, educate the community, and take enforcement action where required.
This is a diverse and rewarding field-based role where you'll build positive relationships with residents, businesses and visitors while helping to maintain safe, welcoming and well managed public spaces for the community
What You’ll deliver
- Investigate complaints and breaches of legislation, local laws and Council policies, taking appropriate compliance and enforcement action where required.
- Conduct patrols, inspections and permit or registration checks across the municipality to identify issues, improve public safety and support community compliance.
- Educate and advise residents, businesses and visitors on local laws, animal management requirements and Council regulations.
- Gather evidence, prepare investigation reports and briefs of evidence, issue infringements and represent Council in legal proceedings when necessary.
- Respond to customer enquiries, service requests and complaints in a timely, professional and customer-focused manner while maintaining accurate records of all investigations and actions
What You’ll Bring
- Experience in a regulatory, compliance, enforcement or similar role, with the ability to confidently apply legislation, policies and procedures in a practical setting.
- Strong investigative skills, including the ability to gather evidence, assess information, make sound decisions and maintain accurate records.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate, influence and build positive relationships with residents, businesses and community members.
- A customer-focused approach combined with the confidence to manage challenging situations professionally, fairly and respectfully.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, field-based environment.
- A relevant qualification in Justice, Investigation, Local Government Statutory Regulation or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to undertake field-based duties across the municipality, including responding to animal management and local law matters.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check, and Functional Assessment (Medical/physio).
