We encourage applications from qualified candidates of all ages, cultural backgrounds, abilities, genders and sexual orientations and are happy to adjust our recruitment processes, even in ways we may not have thought of before.  Please reach out to us about any adjustments or support you may require.

About the role:

The Commercial Manager (C&I) provides commercial strategy, portfolio‑level insight and advisory support across Momentum’s Commercial & Industrial (C&I) business. The role works alongside Growth, Product, Pricing and Contract Trading teams to ensure decisions meet customer needs, are commercially sound at a whole‑of‑portfolio level and aligned to long‑term margin, risk and growth objectives.

The role does not directly sell to customers, price individual deals or manage products, but brings a unifying commercial lens to support disciplined decision‑making. The role exists to obtain the best outcomes for our customer, strengthen commercial governance, lift C&I capability and enable sustainable, profitable growth across the C&I portfolio.

  • C&I Portfolio Commercial Stewardship: Provide portfolio‑level commercial oversight of the C&I book (covering all products), ensuring decisions taken across sales, pricing and product are coherent, sustainable and aligned to long‑term margin and risk objectives. Work closely with Customer Strategy on whole of Momentum portfolio management.
  • C&I Margin Management: Monitor, analyse and provide insight on C&I margins and performance drivers. Support corrective actions and strategic trade‑offs to protect and grow portfolio value over time. Drive increased consistency and reduction in margin erosion
  • Contract Trading and Transfer Pricing Governance: Own the relationship with the Contract Trading team for C&I matters. Manage and maintain C&I transfer pricing protocols to ensure transparency, consistency and commercial integrity across trading and retail outcomes. Work with Contract Trading to support deals of strategic importance.
  • Commercial Advisory to Growth Teams: Provide expert commercial advice to the C&I Growth team on complex deals, negotiations and escalations.
  • Contract Term and Structure Guidance: Provide guidance on contract term variations, non‑standard structures and bespoke arrangements. Ensure commercial implications, risks and trade‑offs are clearly understood before decisions are made.
  • C&I Growth and Retention Strategy: Develop and support strategies to increase cross‑sell, renewal rates and margin growth across the C&I portfolio. Identify opportunities to improve customer lifetime value through smarter structuring and portfolio management.
  • Commercial Capability and Governance: Lift C&I commercial capability by establishing clear frameworks, principles and guidance that support consistent decision‑making across teams. Act as a trusted advisor to leaders on commercial judgement and trade‑offs.
  • C&I Sales Strategy (where agreed): Where accountable, develop and drive the C&I sales strategy in partnership with Growth, Product and Pricing, ensuring strategic alignment and clarity of roles and decision rights.

About you and your experience:

  • Significant experience in commercial management or commercial strategy within C&I or B2B energy markets.
  • Demonstrated experience working with pricing, trading and risk functions in a portfolio‑based environment.
  • Experience providing commercial advice on complex deals, contract structures and non‑standard arrangements.
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes in a matrixed organisation without direct ownership of sales or pricing execution.
  • Strong understanding of C&I electricity market dynamics, pricing structures and margin drivers.
  • Ability to think at a portfolio level and balance growth, margin, risk and customer outcomes.
  • High commercial judgement with the ability to articulate trade‑offs clearly and credibly.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across sales, product, pricing, trading and risk.
  • Confidence operating as an advisor and challenger rather than an owner of execution.
  • Clear and disciplined communication skills, including the ability to brief senior leaders and boards.
  • Ability to build commercial capability and shared understanding over time.
