The Executive Director of Schools, Diocese of Wollongong, invites applications from suitably experienced leaders of education for the substantive position of Assistant Principal - Teaching & Learning (K-12) at St Francis Catholic College, Edmondson Park, commencing at the beginning of the 2026 school year.  

The role of Assistant Principal - Teaching & Learning (K-12) is an essential part of the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the Principal in leading high-quality learning across the College to maximise student growth and achievement, and contributing to the effective conduct and organisation of the College.

Located in Sydney’s South-West, St Francis Catholic College, Edmondson Park, utilises an innovative K-12 model of faith, learning and wellbeing. ABOUT YOU

To achieve success in the role, you will be someone who:

  • Has an ability to articulate a comprehensive knowledge of the purpose of a Catholic School, particularly in the tradition of the Edmund Rice charism and within the broader evangelising mission of the Catholic Church.

  • Builds a learning culture of shared responsibility for quality teaching and student learning growth, informed by data.

  • Leads, supports, and works closely with learning and curriculum leaders and teams across Junior (K–4), Middle (5–8) and Senior (9–12) Years Learning to drive deep learning across the College.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to academic excellence and a thorough knowledge of evidence-based, contemporary pedagogical approaches, consistent with the College’s work in New Pedagogies for Deep Learning.

  • Builds capacity through your own professional development and supporting staff by providing access to effective, continual professional learning opportunities, giving regular feedback and managing performance.

  • Acts strategically, using relevant data, to drive school improvement initiatives aligned to the school’s vision and strategic plan.

  • Ensures that school processes meet system, NESA and legislative requirements. In particular, implementing and communicating Diocesan frameworks, policies and directives relevant to student learning.

  • Develops and maintains positive partnerships with students, families and carers, the local church and the wider school community.

  • Demonstrates a depth and breadth of experience at the middle leader level to ensure that they can adequately support middle leaders and teachers.

  • The role supports the Principal through the work of the Senior Leadership Team to drive whole school improvement.

The following GENERAL CAPABILITIES are applicable to the role:

  • Extensive interpersonal skills.

  • Extensive oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Effective organisational skills that have a high impact on policy and process implementation, including the ability to regularly meet deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-graduate study in a relevant discipline (or working towards).

  • Accreditation for Senior Leadership in a Catholic School in accordance with the ‘Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead in Systemic Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong’ policy (or a commitment to acquire within a 5-year period).

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE

This role is classified as child-related work and therefore, we require a Working with Children clearance to be completed prior to your commencement with us.
