We are currently seeking a Visual and Public Art Officer to join a small but dynamic team within the Arts and Libraries Branch. The branch consists of Creative Industries, Festivals and Events, the Museum of Australian Photography, and the Monash Public Library Service.

About the Position

The Visual and Public Arts Officer will develop and drive the visual and public art policy and programs for Monash. The position contributes to the Creative Industries team core purpose to enhance, develop and promote the City of Monash as creative place where dynamic, diverse, vibrant arts activities thrive, and the community enjoy arts and culture as part of an everyday experience.

Working with internal teams, local organisations, businesses, and creative industries, this role promotes opportunities for development and engagement of Monash creative spaces and programs.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of contemporary public art programs and practice in local government and community settings
  • Sound organisational skills in an arts environment, including the delivery of concurrent projects and tasks with conflicting deadlines; ability to set priorities; be initiative-taking and work with limited supervision
  • Excellent people skills and public presentation skills including the ability to successfully liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders for the delivery of the arts programs
  • Knowledge of arts funding opportunities and grant writing experience in an arts context
  • Highly developed written and oral communications skills and their application across a range of mediums
  • Well-developed computer literacy skills including the ability to competently operate a variety of applications i.e. Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite applications

Requirements

Tertiary qualification in Arts / Cultural / Public Art Management or equivalent, and a minimum 2 years’ experience in working in public art and creative industries

  • Employee Working with Children’s Check
  • Satisfactory National Police Check
  • Other pre-employment checks may be required depending on the role requirements
