Sitting within the broader City Planning Department, the Building Team oversees the assessment of building applications, report and consent applications, building compliance and other technical matters.
About the Position:
The Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor will support the Municipal Building Surveyor in managing the day-to-day delivery of a high quality, cost-effective Building Surveying Service within the municipality. This integral role will lead the team by providing a framework for responsive customer service to the community, ensuring the maintenance of safe and structurally sound buildings erected in the Municipality through the Building Act and Regulations and the statutory processes available.
Skills and Experience:
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to lead and be an integral team member within both the Building Team and the organisation.
- Demonstrated staff management skills, including the ability to participate in the training and development of staff
- A thorough knowledge and understanding of the Building Act, Building Regulations, Building Code of Australia Volumes 1 and 2, referenced Australian Standards and experience in applying these and current building practices to all classes of buildings.
- The position has a strategic focus identifying long term operational issues, providing solutions, making decisions and developing new processes and procedures as a response.
- Proficiency with, and aptitude for, the use of information technology.
Requirement of the position:
- Academic qualification equal to a tertiary level Degree or Diploma in Building Surveying from an accredited course
- Current registration as a Registered Building Practitioner preferably in the Category of Building Surveyor Unlimited issued by the Victorian Building Authority
- Employee Working with Children’s Check
- Satisfactory National Police Check.
