About the Role
Provide senior level legal support and advice on a range of complex legal matters, with a focus on one or more of the following areas of law:
- Commercial, procurement, intellectual property and/or contract
- Administrative and statutory laws relevant to icare schemes (such as insurance law or compensation and disability law)
- Data, information security and privacy
- Dispute resolution
in order to ensure legal compliance with all relevant organisational, government and legislative requirements.
Develop and maintain effective partnerships with icare service lines and enabling services to ensure legal support and advice meet business needs, as well as icare’s organisational transformation and innovation.

Duties
It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same; as a Senior Lawyer you will:
- Review, draft and negotiate clear, concise and high-quality legal documents, including instruments, contracts, deeds, performance security and other types of agreements.
- Identify and analyse complex legal issues and disputes and provide high quality oral and written legal advice and opinions to icare service lines and enabling functions, which could include Group Executives, the Chief Executive and the Board.
- Engage and consult with icare service lines and enabling functions to understand business requirements, effectively manage legal risk and achieve quality outcomes.
- Lead negotiations on legal matters with icare’s third party service providers or other counterparties.
- Conduct litigation or alternative dispute resolution processes in tribunals and courts.
- Select and manage outsourced legal providers for specialist legal support, advice or litigation. Ensure that such providers comply with legal engagement rules and service standards and add significant value to in-house legal resources.
- Identify legal issues and risks, and assist in the development of contracts, policies and strategies to manage those issues and risks in partnership with icare businesses and third-party service providers.
- Stay abreast of legislative changes that affect icare and its operations.
- Develop and deliver training on legal matters to the icare Legal and icare service lines and enabling functions.
Skills & Experience
- At least 4 years’ experience as a qualified lawyer in Australia
- Admitted as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of NSW, with condition 2 removed or eligibility for removal
- Substantial legal experience and technical knowledge in the following areas: contracts, commercial, procurement and intellectual property
- administrative and statutory laws relevant to icare schemes (such as insurance law or compensation and disability law)
- Outstanding communication skills and strong negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
- Experience in a leading firm and/or inhouse corporate or government organisation based in Australia
