Risk & Assurance Lead

Summary:  Responsible for effectively identifying, managing, monitoring and mitigating risks in line with icare’s risk and compliance, frameworks & policies. Also accountable for providing proactive, and ongoing assurance over the effective remediation of audit findings within the first line of defence.

About the Role

This role will be responsible for supporting the Workers Compensation leadership team and business in effectively identifying, managing, monitoring and mitigating risks in line with icare’s risk and compliance, frameworks & policies. Also accountable for providing proactive, and ongoing assurance over the effective remediation of audit findings within the first line of defence.

Duties

It’s an exciting time at icare where no two days are the same: as an Risk & Assurance Lead you will:

  • Actively contribute to Workers Compensations risk maturity uplift by coaching and training leaders, staff and business stakeholders on Risk Management, driving a strong focus on continuous improvement Develop and update Business Unit and Scheme Risk registers, lead Risk workshops for identification, assessment of business unit and scheme level risks, identify and document controls, maintain ongoing controls monitoring in collaboration with First Line assurance team.
  • Support business in the management of Transformation and Change risk by providing risk and control advisory to business and project teams for identification, assessment, mitigation and management of “risk in change” including preparation of reporting for project steercos and senior management forums
  • Support management of high risk and complex incidents/lead thematic Risk Deep Dives, providing risk advisory on risk assessment and design and implementation of mitigating controls
  • Manage and lead risk related forums and committees, including preparation of committee packs, issuance of minutes and tracking actions, identifying thematic risks and driving control improvements with internal and external stakeholders. Accountable for contributing to and leading development of scheme monthly Risk reporting coordinating inputs across the R&C team ensuring data quality, accuracy and inclusion of meaningful insights.
  • Support ad hoc risk advisory activities
  • Develop strong cross team relationships with Line 1 and 2, gaining an understanding of linkages between Incident Management, Compliance Risk Management and Fraud Risk management as relates to business unit and scheme risks
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships with the Workers Compensation Leadership team and icare senior management, acting as a trusted adviser to the Workers Compensation business
  • Reviewing and challenging the root cause analysis and action plans developed in response to internal and external audit findings including validation testing or oversight to ensure effectiveness of controls before findings are considered closed.
  • Partner with WC leaders in the development and management of audit activities including preparing assurance reports and updates for senior management and governance forums to support risk-informed decision-making.

Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years Risk Management experience operating in a highly regulated industry (banking, insurance) or Audit/Risk Advisory consulting experience in Financial Services industry
  • Extensive experience in Risk and Control Assessments
  • Exposure to Risk In Change for projects
  • Experience in preparing Risk reports for senior management
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Ability to engage in a collaborative manner with senior leaders
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Self-starter and proactive
  • Prioritization and time management skills
  • Working under pressure to deadlines
  • A broad range of relevant workers compensation industry experience
