About the role

With the award of new and exciting projects across VIC, we are seeking a Design Coordinator to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible of overseeing and managing the design process for various construction projects, ensuring all designs meet stakeholder expectations, regulatory standards, and that designs support the project timelines.

Job tasks and responsibilities

  • Responsible for administering the project and BMD Design Management Plans and processes.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate a collaborative and positive design review process to obtain the relevant approvals.
  • Oversee and coordinate all engineering, constructability and design compliance aspects of the project and work with designers as well as the construction team to ensure designs are produced accurately, on time and within budget.
  • Responsible for managing all stages of a project’s design from tender, detailed design, construction phase services, and completions.
  • Understand the design compliance and reporting procedures and processes and leadership in the communication of requirements to facilitate timely decision making and appropriate assessment of change requests.
  • Take a lead role in problem solving to find innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges during the design and construction phase.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and cost savings during the design phase of the project.
  • Championing safety in design to ensure control measures are provided early in the design process to eliminate or minimise risks to health and safety through the lifecycle of the project and infrastructure.  
  • Experience in multidiscipline infrastructure projects within Victoria, South Australia or Tasmania.

To be successful in this role, you will have

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer and RPEV Registered
  • Prior contracting or design consultancy experience in the civil construction industry within a similar position.
  • Management of technical teams in the delivery of design and engineering solutions for bids and projects, including planning and budget management.
  • Experience in stakeholder management with focus on relationship building, influencing communication and negotiation skills, particularly with our design partners and clients.
  • Knowledge of digital engineering platforms and collaborative Construction Management platforms and software.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
