About BMD

BMD is Australia’s leading integrated engineering, construction and urban development business. As the largest privately owned civil contractor in Australia, BMD is at the forefront of excellence, with a growing international footprint extending to the Philippines and the United Kingdom.

Driven by a purpose of powering futures and creating enduring legacies, we deliver complex infrastructure solutions that connect and transform communities. For over 45 years, our diverse portfolio of projects and roles provides exceptional opportunities for our people to grow and make a lasting impact. As part of our team, you’ll help deliver challenging projects, supported by leadership within an inclusive people-first culture.

About the Role

BMD’s Constructions business unit is seeking a highly experienced Project Director to be based in Brisbane, as we continue to expand our footprint across Queensland. With a strong and sustainable base in the QLD market, this is a pivotal leadership role focused on both strategic bidding and successful project execution.

This position will see you initially support key tenders across the transport, defence, and renewable energy sectors, bringing your insight and expertise to shape winning bids. Upon project award, you will take full responsibility for leading project delivery — ensuring outcomes align with BMD Group national standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.

As a Project Director, you will play a crucial role in driving project and business unit performance across financial, safety, cultural, and client relationship outcomes. This is an opportunity to influence the success of iconic infrastructure projects while mentoring and guiding high-performing teams.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter with:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, with postgraduate qualifications in project management or business viewed favorably
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in civil infrastructure, including a strong track record in project and commercial leadership at a senior level
  • Demonstrated success in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects across transport, defence, and energy sectors, with a focus on profitability, client satisfaction, and operational excellence
  • Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and project managers, embedding a high-performance culture aligned with corporate values and safety standards
  • Strong understanding of financial management including project cost control, forecasting, and reporting in line with business unit profit objectives
  • Experience contributing to and leading major bids and tenders, with the ability to identify risks, shape delivery methodology, and drive win strategies
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build enduring relationships with clients, partners, and regulatory bodies
  • In-depth knowledge of safety, quality, and environmental systems and how to ensure compliance while driving innovation and performance improvements
  • A strong personal commitment to leadership, accountability, and continuous improvement across all facets of project and business operations
  • Willingness and capacity to work across Queensland & Northern Territory, with flexibility to support both metropolitan and regional project sites
