What is great about the role?
As an Assistant Management Accountant, you’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for your division. Working closely with the Business Partner and Management Accountants, you’ll help prepare monthly management accounts, including income and expenditure statements, variance analysis, and supporting commentary.
You’ll assist in budget preparation and rolling forecasts, provide KPI data and ad-hoc reports, and support operational teams and budget holders to build financial awareness. You’ll also contribute to the completion of external finance returns, support audit processes, and ensure compliance through reconciliations and robust financial controls.
Where does the role fit in?
This role sits within the wider Finance team and reports into the Business Partner. It works collaboratively with other Assistant Management Accountants and closely with operational teams across the division. You'll act as a key link between finance and service areas, helping to drive good financial management, process improvement, and timely reporting. You’ll also provide cover for other Assistant Management Accountants as needed and contribute to team-wide initiatives.
What skills and experience do you need?
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- At least 2 years of relevant finance experience
- Experience in the preparation of management accounts, including accruals and prepayments
- Manual reconciliation experience
- Strong numeracy, literacy, and attention to detail
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g. pivot tables and VLOOKUPs)
- Ability to analyse large volumes of data and reach clear, informed conclusions
- Confidence working to tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy
- Knowledge of financial systems and procedures
- AAT or Part Qualified Professional Accounting Qualification

What are the pay and benefits?
- This is a full-time position (37 hours per week) on a permanent contract. The salary range is £28,253 – £33,390, assessed based on skills and experience using our competency framework.
- Flexible working policies – this role would be both home and office based which could either be at our Swansea, Cardiff or Newport head office. Your base location will be set to your nearest head office.
