Department Overview: 

Aston Martin Lagonda (AML) is going through an exciting period of change and growth, with numerous new models being developed and launched in the last few years with more on the horizon. This role requires a self-starter, highly dynamic individual who will drive performance throughout the Product Creation environment, providing the appropriate Cost Estimating guidance to ensure AML procure at the lowest possible cost for the required quality product or service. Product Creation encompasses everything from, design, engineering, launch and manufacturing readiness. The successful candidate will be fully embedded in the business and will require high level partnering skills with Chief Engineers, Design Directors and their respective first lines.

Job Purpose: 

The primary objective of the role is to optimize the profitability of all vehicle lines, and therefore the company.

You will be required to manage and lead a team of cost engineers – shaping the strategy of the Cost Engineering department with the objective of having a ‘Should Cost’ for all aspects of Product creation, from Investment through to piece price.

All supplier quotes must be analyzed, and working with Procurement quotes must negotiated using the CE teams objective assessment, ensuring VFM for all parts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Optimise the profitability of all vehicle lines
• Responsible for ‘Should Cost’ of all programmes – Investment & Piece Price
• Work with the Chief Engineers to provide full visibility of ‘Should Cost’ vs ‘Current Cost’ for their respective areas
• Support the creation of overall should cost process and integrate into the product development process
• Manage the team of Cost Engineers, providing a vision and strategy for the department with clear direction and information cascade.   
• Understand the ‘Should Cost’ of current cars in production. Work with the team to develop a road map to close where gaps exist
• Strive for continual BoM improvement on all derivatives through detailed analysis and practical workshops
• Provide supporting data for Gateway deliverables and present status is Gateways 5&4
• Support Procurement in their negotiations with suppliers
• Provide ‘Value for Money’ calculations to support negotiations
• Team to understand all detailed bottom-up costs across Investment and Bill of Material, to include and not limited to, base material cost, hours & labour, overhead requirement. Includes Development and maintenance of QAF rates
• Own ‘Should Cost Templates’ for programmes
• Ensure co-ordination of timely responses and approvals
• Guiding or influencing component design and advising on supplier processes for cost efficiency – Design to cost
• Support the Programme Cost Estimation team with detailed analysis for strategic programme target setting.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Detailed costing analysis

• Experience working in an Estimating environment
• Negotiation and Relationship building experience
• Educated to degree or equivalent
