Hollywood Private Hospital is looking for a Clinical Coding Coordinator to join our Health Information Services team on a permanent basis!

 

About the Role

The Clinical Coding Coordinator coordinates and supervises the clinical coding operation within the HIS department on a day-to-day basis to meet clinical coding targets efficiently by developing and monitoring clinical coding processes and guidelines which facilitate accurate and timely completion of all clinical coding related activities such as documentation queries, workload distribution, and statistics.

This position reports to the Health Information Services Manager and coordinates 21 clinical coders.

 

Duties and responsibilities involve but are not limited to:

  • Monitor throughput of coded records and outstanding coding records
  • Identify areas for improvement in Clinical Coding and develop quality improvement plans to address these areas
  • Assist with implementation of the DMR in the Coding Department
  • Provide support and advice to a Clinical Coder Educator and Auditing staff
  • Liaise with HIS and billing staff to manage health fund requests
  • Support the CDS team
  • Coordinate work-from-home work allocation
  • Providing leadership, mentoring, and assistance to the coding team

 

About You

To thrive in this role, you should be adaptable, possess exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills, and constantly demonstrate courtesy and sensitivity when dealing with patients, the public, and fellow team members.

  • Clinical Coding qualifications from Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) or equivalent, or Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management)
  • Sound and updated knowledge of ICD-10-AM 12th edition, National and local coding standards
  • High level analytical and abstracting skills
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and effectively manage time to meet deadlines
  • Understanding of patient administration systems and revenue cycle components
  • Knowledge and understanding of private hospital DRG and Casemix
  • Understanding of private health contract system
  • Experience in a senior clinical coding/educator/auditor role or clinical coding management role
  • 5 years and over of experience abstracting and coding across a wide Casemix, with exposure to Private Health funds
  • High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.

Requirements
