Position: Diesel Mechanic

Join Our Team!

We have an opportunity for a Diesel Mechanic to join our busy depot team based at our Kennaway Road, depot. This is a diverse and challenging role which involves carrying out repairs, services, and maintenance on our heavy machinery such as container handlers, trucks, and other vehicles.

Status: Fulltime

This is a full-time position with a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week. Hours of work are 7.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday and 7.00am to 12.00pm Saturday.

Hourly rate will be between $32.00-38.00 depending on qualifications/experience.

Location: Kennaway Road, Christchurch 

What You’ll Do

The purpose of this role is to support Depot Management by ensuring the workshop and machinery fleet runs efficiently and effectively on a daily basis to maximise continuity.

• Complete vehicle/machinery repairs, services and maintenance in a timely and cost efficient and safe manner.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, servicing and safety checks on all trucking, container handling and plant equipment within the fleet and in accordance with the appropriate schedules.
• Share knowledge and expertise with Apprentices, hoist and truck drivers on mechanical preventions.
• Be available to go on 24hr ‘on call’ on a rotational basis
• Share knowledge and expertise with DESL Apprentices and Qube drivers on mechanical preventions.

What We Need:

• Experience with similar heavy machinery and hydraulics to our container handlers.
• Ability to understand electrical and hydraulic diagrams (or have some understanding of electrics).
• A New Zealand National Certificate in Automotive Heavy Engineering Level 4 (or equivalent) preferred but not essential.
• A full clean New Zealand Driver’s License 
• Ability to work well within a team and under pressure
• Strong organisational and time management skills
