Job Description

The College of Architecture, Arts, and Design (AAD) at Virginia Tech is seeking two part-time AV Technicians to provide audiovisual support across the college’s diverse creative and academic facilities. Working under the supervision of the AV Services Manager, these positions deliver hands-on technical support for classrooms, performance venues, gallery spaces, conference rooms, and special events serving all four schools within AAD: School of Architecture, School of Design, School of Visual Arts, and School of Performing Arts.

AV Technicians will respond to support requests, troubleshoot technical issues, maintain AV equipment and systems, and provide on-site support for events including theatrical productions, concerts, gallery exhibitions, lectures, and meetings. Responsibilities include testing Zoom Rooms and presentation systems, assisting with event setup and breakdown, performing preventative maintenance, and documenting all activities in the IT service management system.

These positions are ideal for students interested in gaining practical experience with professional audiovisual technology, event production, and technical support in a creative arts environment.

Required Qualifications

· Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to consistent weekly schedule

· Strong customer service orientation and professional communication skills

· Ability to work independently and follow through on assigned tasks

· Physical ability to lift and transport equipment up to 50 lbs

· Ability to climb ladders and work on feet for extended periods

· Willingness to learn new technologies and troubleshooting methods

· Basic comfort with technology and problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications

· Interest in audiovisual technology, event production, technical theater, or performance technology

· Prior experience with AV equipment, sound systems, projection systems, or video conferencing (any level)

· Familiarity with both macOS and Windows operating systems

· Background or interest in arts, design, architecture, or performance

· Experience with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or other video conferencing platforms

· Interest in live sound, lighting, or theatrical production

· Experience working in customer-facing roles

· Basic understanding of audio/video cables, connectors, and signal flow
