Job Description

The Computational Cognitive Neuroscience (CCN) Lab, directed by Dr. Seongmin A. Park in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Tech, invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher. The CCN Lab investigates the computational principles by which the human brain supports intelligence, learning, and flexible decision-making, with a particular focus on how internal models of task structure enable abstraction, generalization, and adaptive behavior in novel environments.

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to interdisciplinary projects that combine behavioral experiments, neuroimaging (fMRI, OPM-MEG, and EEG), and computational modeling, including normative and neural network approaches. The position offers opportunities to develop independent research ideas aligned with the lab’s vision, publish high-impact research, collaborate across disciplines, and mentor students. This is a two-year, full-time, on-site position with the possibility of renewal, contingent on performance and funding availability.

Required Qualifications

• Ph.D. in cognitive neuroscience, psychology, computer science, or a closely related field by the start date
• Demonstrated experience conducting independent research
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Proficiency in at least one programming language commonly used in computational or cognitive neuroscience (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R)
• Ability to communicate research findings effectively in written and oral formats

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with neuroimaging methods (e.g., fMRI and/or MEG/OPM-MEG)
• Experience developing and analyzing computational models of cognition or behavior
• Familiarity with machine learning or advanced statistical methods
• Record of peer-reviewed publications
• Experience mentoring or supervising students
