Job Description
Housekeepers at the Center for the Arts must work independently and as a part of a team to maintain the cleanliness of the Center for the Arts building and grounds and ensure an aesthetically pleasing, clean, sanitary, and safe environment in a variety of spaces including lobbies, theater and other public event areas, performance support areas, restrooms, offices, classrooms, and research studios. Housekeepers must regularly use critical thinking to prioritize their own workload with minimal supervision, making real-time decisions to ensure the facility meets standards before, during, and after events.
Standard duties include, but are not limited to, floor cleaning, dusting, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning, gathering and removing trash, leaf blowing, and snow and ice removal from steps and sidewalks. Housekeepers must also anticipate and adapt to changing conditions while proactively adjusting priorities in real time in response to performances and events in this dynamic facility. Housekeepers are expected to safely and properly operate powered and manual equipment, follow health and safety procedures, monitor supplies inventory, and report needed building repairs, damages, and unsafe conditions. Housekeepers are expected to work a varying schedule, including day, evening, and weekend hours.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with commercial/industrial cleaning methods and safety.
- Working knowledge of safe and efficient operation of electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment.
- Ability and willingness to work a varying schedule that may include days, evenings, and weekends to accommodate event schedules.
- Experience providing excellent customer service and positive interpersonal interactions with a variety of clientele.
- Experience with daily activities requiring continual physical exertion, including climbing stairs, safely moving and handling up to 50lbs, bending, stooping, reaching (including above the head), pushing/pulling, performing repetitive motions, twisting, shoveling snow, walking and standing extensively.
- Ability and willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and to work from heights, including ladders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience safely and efficiently operating electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment.
- Housekeeping experience working at a university or college, or experience in an institutional or commercial cleaning environment such as hospitality, manufacturing, healthcare, or similar.
- Knowledge of theater and event operations.
Overtime Status
Non-Exempt: Eligible for overtime
Salary Information
$36,000-$38,000
Hours per week
40 - Typically afternoons/evenings but will also include days, nights, and weekend hours
