Job Description

Faculty on the professor of practice track in the Department of Computer Science are full-time, non-tenure-track faculty who bring significant professional expertise and applied experience to the department’s teaching mission. Their responsibilities emphasize excellence in undergraduate instruction and leadership in advancing educational practices, with additional contributions in service and scholarship.

Faculty on this track are expected to demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, leadership in advancing the department’s instructional mission, and contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning or professional practice. Their service is closely aligned with educational impact, including mentoring other faculty in teaching and contributing to the continuous improvement of the curriculum. Faculty on the professor of practice track have a promotion path with increasingly long-term contracts that recognize sustained excellence across teaching, service, and scholarly contributions.

Required Qualifications

Prior instructional experience at the college or university level.

An advanced degree in computer science or a closely related field.

Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and engaging students with diverse backgrounds in computer science.

Professional work experience in the field of computer science and in particular in the area of AI, ML, or data science.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing undergraduate AI curriculum and courses.

Experience with curriculum development, course coordination, or large multi-section courses.

Engagement with scholarship in computer science, and in particular in the areas of AI, ML, and/or data science.

Experience and ability in managing large-scale (center-level) research projects, including teams of faculty and graduate students.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to departmental service, particularly in support of the teaching mission.
