Job Description
The Hoyt and Langwig lab are searching for a research and program manager to assist in advancing work on the ecology and evolution of infectious disease.
The Langwig and Hoyt labs at Virginia Tech focus on disease ecology and evolution, and work spans across multiple host-pathogen systems including white-nose syndrome in bats, snake fungal disease, and viruses of wildlife. This opportunity is for a full-time research and program manager to build and advance a research program that bridges conservation and infectious disease. The Research Manager will independently contribute to the research in the lab. In addition to conducting research, the Manager will lead program coordination, and contribute to lab and field activities.
Primary essential duties will include (1) analysis of data and advancement of research questions, including contributing to publications (40%), (2) outreach to lab partners and reporting agencies including assistance with reports, permitting, and project management (20%), (3) assistance with general lab management including purchasing and safety of the physical lab space (20%), (4) sample analysis including DNA extraction and qPCR (training provided) (20%).
Required Qualifications
1. Exceptional communication skills for communicating with diverse groups.
2. High-level organizational abilities including attention to detail and careful checking of work.
3. M.S degree (or higher) in biology, ecology, epidemiology, microbiology or a related field.
4. Experience working in program R.
Preferred Qualifications
1. PhD in biology, ecology, epidemiology, microbiology or a related field.
2. Previous experience working in a laboratory environment.
3. Demonstrated evidence of research products
