Job Description
The Academic Programs Coordinator in Biological Systems Engineering assists the Undergraduate Program Director and Graduate Program Director in administering undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.
Duties include providing support for all teaching related activities, such as orientation and registration; providing academic information and referrals to students; processing graduate student applications; maintaining student files. Serves as liaison between the department and the Registrar's Office, Graduate School, CALS and COE Academic Deans' Offices, and CALS and COE Associate Deans for Graduate Studies Offices. Facilitates assessment of undergraduate and graduate programs. Serves as departmental contact for international students, maintaining a relationship with VT Global Strategic Services (GSS), as well as the Cranwell International Center, staying up to date on relative regulations and procedures. Works with the Assistant Director of Business Operations to initiate and maintain graduate assistantship contracts.
Required Qualifications
Experience working with undergraduate and/or graduate students; Computer software skills, including word processing and spreadsheet; Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Demonstrated ability to work well as a team member while working independently, maintain confidentiality, and manage multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
Broad knowledge of university policies and procedures, particularly related to registration, class scheduling, degree and graduation requirements; Advanced computer skills, particularly related to data management software; Ability to use and interpret the BANNER family of administrative systems.
