Job Description
The Virginia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit seeks a highly organized and service-oriented professional to support its research, financial, and administrative operations. This role is integral to advancing the Unit’s mission through effective coordination, compliance, and collaboration.
The Administrative & Fiscal Coordinator provides comprehensive administrative, fiscal, and operational support to the Virginia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and assigned faculty within the department.
This position coordinates federal and university administrative processes, including financial transactions, reporting, travel, and Research Work Orders (RWOs). The role serves as a liaison among faculty, students, university offices, and federal partners, supporting effective communication and ensuring compliance with university and federal policies, procedures, and deadlines.
The position also supports departmental operations, including reporting, fiscal tracking, vehicle coordination, and administrative processes essential to the Unit’s research and outreach mission.
Required Qualifications
• Experience providing administrative support in a professional office environment
• Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to interpret and apply federal regulations and university policies and procedures
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to learn and apply complex processes
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with university financial and administrative systems (e.g., PageUp, HokieMart, Chrome River, MicroStrategy, Banner)
• Experience with fiscal processing, bookkeeping, or accounting support
• Familiarity with sponsored research administration or federal grant processes
