Job Description

We seek an Assistant Director for Business Operations to provide operational and administrative management and financial support to the areas within the Senior Director for Student Engagement and Community Centers portfolio. The Assistant Director provides leadership and oversight for the business operations of the portfolio including HR administration, financial support, departmental administrative support, and US Passport Acceptance Facility across Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) and the Cultural and Community Centers (CCCs). This position ensures compliance with university policies, directly manages departmental financial transaction execution and has oversight of several administrative functions. The Assistant Director serves as a key liaison between SECL, CCCs, and Student Affairs Finance and Planning, while fostering a positive and professional environment for staff and students.

Here’s what you need to know about the role:

1. You will join Student Engagement and Campus Life, a department that uplifts the student experience by cultivating affirming environments and providing exceptional services.

2. You will report to the Associate Director for Student Organizations and Administration within Student Engagement and Campus Life, in a regular, full-time, 100% university staff appointment.

3. You will be responsible for leading business operations and administration for Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) and the Cultural and Community Centers (CCCs), serving as the primary liaison between the departments and Student Affairs Finance and Planning. In this role, you will be the primary business partner to several service units within SECL and will design trainings to promote awareness and compliance with departmental and university policies.

5. You will be offered a base salary between $65,000 and $70,000 along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

o Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.
o Experience working with fiscal/budgetary operations.
o Demonstrated ability to create and sustain strong business operations.
o Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain accurate records, partner with team members, and execute financial transactions with precision.
o Ability to interpret and apply policies, exercising judgment, using problem-solving strategies, and maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
o Able to work independently and must possess initiative and creativity to evaluate needs assigned.
o Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
o Professional communication skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences.
o Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

o Prior office management experience with knowledge of office procedures.
o Experience supporting senior leadership in an administrative or financial management capacity.
o Office experience in a university setting
o Experience with Banner, HokieMart
o Experience with point-of-sale systems
