Job Description
The Natural Resources Specialist will assist Marine Corps Base Quantico fish and wildlife managers with a variety of wildlife management, monitoring, and conservation projects. The incumbent will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to collect field data and implement management actions related to wildlife surveys, habitat management, invasive species control, game check station operations, and other natural resource management activities. The position will also be responsible for data entry, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), data summarization, and communicating findings through written reports and oral presentations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Science, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, Botany, Natural Resources, or a closely related field.
- Experience participating in wildlife surveys and biological field investigations.
- Working knowledge of common game and non-game wildlife species of the Mid-Atlantic region and the ability to identify species in the field.
- Experience navigating rough terrain using topographic maps, GPS units, and compass navigation techniques.
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors for extended periods in adverse weather and challenging field conditions.
- Valid driver's license and ability to successfully complete background checks required for access to military installations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and Access), GPS equipment, and ESRI GIS software.
- Working ability to collect, manage, and maintain accurate field data records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working on Department of Defense (DoD) installations.
- Experience with wildlife habitat management, prescribed land management practices, or invasive species control.
- Familiarity with natural resource management regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
- Experience using ArcGIS and related geospatial tools for data collection and analysis.
