Job Description

The Virginia Tech Conservation Management Institute (CMI) seeks a highly motivated Geospatial Analyst to support geospatial data development, analysis, and management efforts associated with natural resource conservation and military land management programs. The successful candidate will develop, maintain, analyze, and document geospatial datasets using GIS, GPS, remote sensing technologies, and field-collected data to support research, planning, and project-critical decision making.

Required Qualifications

• MS Degree in natural resources or BS degree with applicable certifications directly related in Geography, Ecology, Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, GIS, Remote Sensing, or a related field.
• Experience developing and analyzing geospatial datasets derived from aerial imagery, satellite imagery, LiDAR, and other remote sensing technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to create professional cartographic products for technical reports, peer review publications and professional presentations.
• Experience with GPS technologies and Esri GIS software.
• Demonstrated experience collecting, managing, and integrating field and spatial data.
• Must be familiar with and have the ability to develop spatial data sets that are compliant with Department of War Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting natural resource management on military installations.
• Experience working with Department of Defense geospatial data standards and environmental programs.
