The Clinical Science and Skills Instructional Manager provides instructional and programmatic management for Clinical Science and Skills education across the undergraduate medical education curriculum at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM). Reporting to the Director of Clinical Science and Skills, the Instructional Manager coordinates the implementation of clinical science instruction, clinical skills activities, standardized patient and simulation-supported learning experiences, performance-based assessments, and related educational programming. The position manages instructional workflows, learning systems, educational materials, assessment implementation, faculty preparation, and learner-facing processes to support consistent, integrated, and high-quality educational experiences.

The Instructional Manager also contributes to curricular integration, continuous quality improvement, and the implementation of educational innovations within the Clinical Science and Skills domain.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong professional written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to work independently with initiative, sound judgment, confidentiality, professional integrity, adaptability, and effective problem-solving. This role requires the ability to manage multiple concurrent educational activities and respond to changing priorities. Highly successful people in this role have knowledge of curriculum implementation, learner assessment, instructional design, or educational technologies; an interest in clinical skills education, simulation-based learning, and competency-based education; and the ability to work effectively in collaborative, team-based educational environments.
