Job Summary:

The Department of Facilities Management and Development at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Facilities Control Room Manager / Associate Facilities Program Coordinator. The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate and generate all the required reports and certification as mandated by regulatory agencies.
  • Be responsible for the operation and repair of SUNY Downstate Medical Center Power and Physical Plants including high pressure boilers, centrifugal and adsorption, achillers, building control/automation HAVC systems/distribution emergency generators and related systems.
  • Assign tasks, follow-up on assignments, and supervise a staff of 45 engineers plant and maintenance workers.
  • Prepare and plan schedules for three (3) shifts for the operation of the campus physical power plant.
  • Develop and implement Preventive and Predictive Maintenance Programs. In order to minimize down time and anticipate mechanical failures.
  • Supervise maintenance/repair contracts for power plant equipment.
  • Coordinate construction and repairs with contractors, shop, and hospital personnel; maintain written records/logs on repairs, contractors, and maintenance jobs.
  • Maintain logs required by the Joint Commission, NYS Department of Health, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Remain aware of changes affecting the operation of the power plant.
  • Attend meetings pertaining to operations and maintenance of the power plant and personnel management.
  • Assist the Associate Director of Physical Plant Operations & Maintenance as required for the continued reliable and safe operation of the power plant
  • Assist the Associate Director of Physical Plant Operations & Maintenance as required in enforcing rules, policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with TMA computerized maintenance management software.
  • Stationary Engineers License or equivalent.
  • Must possess working knowledge of regulatory codes and statutes.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong background in operation and repairs of mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of power plant operation, utility systems, maintenance operations and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training to the above. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Formal technical training in plant equipment repairs.
  • Strong leadership experience demonstrating ability to coordinate, direct and supervise multidisciplinary technical staff.
