We are looking for an Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Care (AMIC) Trainee to work as part of a dedicated primary health care team, including midwives and doctors. You will provide culturally safe and supportive antenatal, birthing, and postnatal care to Aboriginal families, helping improve birth outcomes and connecting families with essential community services. You will also receive ongoing clinical training, guidance, and support from experienced professionals to develop your skills and knowledge in maternal and infant care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide culturally appropriate antenatal and postnatal care
  • Link families to support services and resources
  • Assist in implementing high-quality, culturally safe services
  • Support the psycho-social well-being of Aboriginal women and their families
  • Participate in evidence-based practices and contribute to improving maternal health outcomes

What we’re looking for:

  • Ability to work with Aboriginal communities respecting traditional culture, values and ways of doing business and understand the issues and needs of Aboriginal women and their families (within a holistic concept of health).
  • The incumbent will be required to complete a Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice (HLT40213) and the required AMIC skills set at the Diploma level (HLT50213) with the Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (ACHSA).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Empathetic and culturally aware approach to healthcare
  • Experience, within the boundaries of their education and skill preparation, in the provision of nursing/midwifery care in the healthcare setting in accordance with the appropriate standards of practice.
