About the position
We are seeking an experienced senior education leader to join us as Professor of Practice. This position requires the successful candidate to hold and maintain an ongoing and active external senior leadership role (such as Principal, Deputy Principal, or System Leader) while serving as Professor, ensuring direct connection to contemporary educational practice. This pivotal role will drive the practical application of educational theory across both our graduate programs and professional development offerings for practicing teachers. The position holder must maintain their current senior educational leadership role so as to ensure contemporary industry insights inform our teaching and learning approaches. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive professional expertise to shape our academic programs and strengthen our engagement with the education sector.
The position holder must be an innovative educational leader with proven impact and extensive experience in contemporary teaching practice and/or research. They will mentor junior colleagues while building strong partnerships with schools and stakeholders to develop cutting-edge curriculum and lead collaborative projects. Through their expertise and connections, they will strengthen the School's capabilities and enhance its reputation for excellence in Learning Sciences, education, and interdisciplinary approaches to improving learning outcomes for all students.
As a Level E Academic some of your duties at this level will include:
- Deliver senior academic leadership in evidence-based learning and teaching quality, assurance and management, including oversight and accountability for strategic educational enhancement programs.
- Make a distinguished leadership contribution to academic governance and administration within the School and University.
- Engaging with national and international discipline or specialist learning and teaching advancement projects and communities.
- Develop and deliver engaging, practice-oriented course content that integrates real-world experiences with theoretical foundations.
- Design and implement innovative teaching strategies, including active learning, technology integration, and differentiated instruction.
- Collaborate with colleagues to continuously update and enhance the teacher education curriculum to reflect current educational trends and practices.
- Engage in outreach activities to promote the teacher education program and support community education initiatives.
Skills and knowledge required for this position:
- A higher degree by research in a relevant field, and/or a postgraduate qualification in higher education, or an equivalent combination of recognition and experience.
- Recognition as an authority in learning and teaching scholarship at national and international level, in a relevant discipline or more generally.
- A proven track record of impact and leadership and innovation in educational settings.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead and manage academic staff including senior staff in the development and delivery of curriculum and teaching enhancements, informed by national and international innovation.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively across an institution to deliver strategic outcomes.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum development.
- Proven experience and success in managing staff performance and development.
