The Opportunity

Based in Perth, WA, and reporting to the Head of Fleet Maintenance, the State Fleet Maintenance Manager – WA/ SA role has been created as part of a major restructure of the National Fleet Maintenance team.

Key responsibilities include the following.

Safety, compliance & risk oversight

  • Oversee and ensure that all workshop activities comply with WHS, HV/NHVR, OEM, and internal safety standards.
  • Ensure regular safety inspections, audits, and critical control verifications are completed, and actions are closed.
  • Provide oversight of maintenance-related incidents, major defects, and repeat failures, ensuring investigations and corrective actions are completed appropriately.
  • Ensure OEM recalls, safety campaigns, and statutory inspections are completed and reported in line with national direction.

Maintenance delivery & fleet availability

  • Oversee execution of the national maintenance plan within the state, ensuring PMs, inspections, and corrective work are delivered safely and on time.
  • Hold Workshop Managers and vendors accountable for minimising downtime and maintaining fleet roadworthiness.
  • Escalate risks to availability, safety, or capacity early and support resolution with national and operations teams.

Quality, reliability & continuous improvement

  • Monitor repeat breakdowns, rework, and quality trends, and ensure root cause analysis and permanent fixes are implemented.
  • Sponsor and support local improvement initiatives related to safety, workflow, turnaround time, and first-time-fix performance.
  • Share insights, lessons learned, and best practices across the national network.

Cost control & vendor governance

  • Oversee maintenance spend and vendor performance against budget, agreements, and national frameworks.
  • Ensure adherence to preferred supplier panels and service level expectations.
  • Ensure warranty processes are followed and recoveries are pursued.

 People leadership & capability

  • Lead, coach, and hold accountable Workshop Managers and supervisors for safety, performance, and culture.
  • Oversee workforce capability, skills coverage, and succession within the state.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of critical technical roles in partnership with HR and national teams.
  • Ensure national training and capability frameworks are implemented locally.

Assets, infrastructure & tooling

  • Oversee the condition and compliance of workshop infrastructure, plant, and tooling, ensuring risks and gaps are identified and escalated.
  • Sponsor and prioritise investment requests in line with national standards.

Governance, reporting & alignment

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent reporting of KPIs, risks, and issues.
  • Participate in national reviews, forums, and improvement programs.
  • Act as the senior maintenance escalation point within the state.

About You

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a solid background in heavy vehicle maintenance, ideally across multiple sites, and have experience in leading workshops and/ or a maintenance team.

  • Good understanding of safety, compliance and what good looks like in a workshop
  • Able to manage downtime, cost and external repairers properly
  • Technically strong enough to challenge issues and decisions
  • Good with people, able to lead managers and work well with operations and vendors
  • Comfortable using systems and reporting on KPI’s (JDE, etc)
  • Trade or engineering background preferred
