Finance Business Partner

About the Role

Cleanaway is seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner to support financial governance and delivery across two major IT transformation projects, as well as oversee non-landfill remediation provisioning. This role is responsible for ensuring financial integrity, accurate forecasting, and compliance with governance frameworks throughout the project lifecycle.

You will collaborate with project leads, finance teams, auditors, and senior stakeholders to drive accountability, transparency, and effective financial management.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Develop and manage project budgets, forecasts, and financial models for two major IT transformation projects
  • Deliver accurate and timely month-end reporting, including variance analysis and insights
  • Monitor project financial performance against budget and approved funding
  • Provide actionable recommendations to project and finance stakeholders

Capex / Opex Governance

  • Perform OPEX vs CAPEX assessments and reviews, ensuring alignment with accounting standards and company policies
  • Ensure appropriate classification of project spend and maintain supporting documentation for audit purposes

Governance & Controls

  • Ensure strong financial governance is applied across both IT projects
  • Monitor spend to ensure no expenditure occurs outside approved budgets unless formally approved through contract variations
  • Develop and maintain financial controls aligned with project governance frameworks

Contract & Variations Management

  • Review Scope of Works (SoW) with project leads to ensure financial alignment and completeness
  • Manage and maintain variation registers, tracking all scope, cost, and contractual changes
  • Ensure all variations are properly approved, documented, and reflected in forecasts and reporting

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with project managers, IT leads, procurement, and finance teams
  • Act as the primary finance contact for project matters
  • Support and present financial updates to Steering Committees and project governance forums

Audit & Compliance

  • Liaise with external auditors, ensuring compliance with audit requirements
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation across all financial aspects of the projects
  • Ensure adherence to company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements

Non-landfill Provisioning

  • Perform month-end reconciliation and liaise with finance teams across non-landfill sites to ensure appropriate coding of spend
  • Liaise with external auditors to ensure compliance with audit requirements for financial reporting
  • Collaborate with site finance teams to review, assess, and maintain adequate provisions

About You

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Finance Business Partner, Project Accountant, or similar role in complex project environments
  • Experience supporting IT or transformation projects (highly desirable)
  • Strong background in forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting
  • Experience managing CAPEX programs and cost governance frameworks

Skills & Capabilities

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence non-financial stakeholders
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical capability
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing priorities
  • Experience working within structured project governance frameworks

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • CA / CPA (or working towards) preferred
