Workshop Supervisor

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Workshop Supervisor to lead our workshop operations and ensure the safe, efficient and cost-effective maintenance of our heavy vehicle fleet.

Based in Northgate, QLD, you will play a key role in maximising fleet availability, maintaining regulatory compliance and driving workshop performance. Working closely with Leading Hands, technicians, operations teams, suppliers and service providers, you will ensure our fleet remains safe, reliable and ready to support our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee daily workshop operations, including scheduling, job allocation and workflow management through Leading Hands
  • Drive fleet availability and reliability while minimising vehicle downtime
  • Coordinate with external vendors and service providers to ensure timely and cost-effective repairs and maintenance
  • Monitor and improve workshop productivity, labour utilisation and repair turnaround times
  • Lead, coach and develop technicians and workshop employees, building a high-performing and engaged team
  • Manage employee performance, training, succession planning and workforce capability
  • Ensure servicing, maintenance and repairs are completed to manufacturer specifications, company standards and legislative requirements
  • Maintain compliance with safety, environmental, NHVR and other relevant regulatory requirements
  • Oversee preventative maintenance programs to improve fleet reliability and asset performance
  • Manage workshop budgets, parts inventory, external repair costs and expenditure controls
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve workshop efficiency, processes and performance
  • Champion workplace health and safety and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Monitor, manage and report against key workshop and fleet performance KPIs
  • Manage vehicle registration requirements and coordinate annual inspections to maintain NHVR scheme compliance

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in fleet maintenance, heavy vehicle operations or workshop management
  • Strong mechanical and technical knowledge within a heavy vehicle environment
  • Proven experience leading, coaching and developing workshop or operational teams
  • A Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic qualification is highly desirable
  • A Heavy Rigid (HR) Vehicle Licence
  • Sound knowledge of fleet compliance, preventative maintenance programs and safety requirements
  • Experience using fleet and workshop management systems
  • Strong planning, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • A strong commitment to safety, continuous improvement and operational excellence

You are a proactive, safety-focused leader who combines strong technical knowledge with effective people leadership. You are comfortable being hands-on when required while maintaining oversight of the broader workshop operation.

You build strong relationships, set clear expectations and develop capable, accountable teams. Most importantly, you understand the critical role the workshop plays in keeping operations moving and take pride in delivering a safe, compliant and reliable fleet.
