Join us at Cleanaway and contribute to making a sustainable future possible, together.
We transform waste into resources and renewable energy. When you start to think of waste as a resource, it opens a world of possibilities.
As a high-growth, ASX-listed organisation with over 10,000 employees, our goal is to be recognised by our customers as the most innovative and sustainable waste management company with industry-leading HSE performance. We are Australia’s largest company in this sector, providing essential services to millions of customers and communities nationally.
The Opportunity
Join Cleanaway’s Centre for Sustainability (C4S) and play a key role in helping customers and communities improve resource recovery outcomes and reduce waste to landfill.
Based in Malaga, WA, and reporting to the National Centre for Sustainability Team Lead, this is a varied and hands-on role combining community and customer engagement, sustainability education, field-based activities, project delivery, data analysis and reporting.
No two days will necessarily look the same. You could be delivering a community education or school program, conducting bin tagging or waste audits, presenting to customers and community groups, analysing program data, facilitating a site tour or travelling regionally to deliver sustainability initiatives.
Working closely with councils, customers and internal stakeholders, you’ll also help identify opportunities to expand our sustainability services and deliver practical programs that create positive environmental outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Deliver sustainability and resource recovery initiatives including bin tagging, waste audits, contamination reduction and community education programs.
- Coordinate and deliver community engagement activities and school sessions, presentations, workshops, stakeholder meetings and site tours.
- Develop strong relationships with councils, customers, community groups and internal operational stakeholders.
- Manage sustainability projects from planning through to delivery, ensuring objectives are achieved effectively and within agreed timeframes.
- Collect and analyse program and waste data, preparing reports, insights and recommendations to support customers and stakeholders.
- Support the development of fee-for-service sustainability programs, including identifying opportunities and assisting with quotes and proposals.
- Create and continually improve sustainability communications, educational materials and program resources.
- Undertake field-based activities across metropolitan and regional WA, including occasional early starts, weekend work and overnight travel.
- Collaborate with the broader Centre for Sustainability team to develop and expand programs and services.
About You
You’ll be an adaptable and engaging person who enjoys working with people but is equally comfortable getting involved in the practical, hands-on elements of sustainability and waste management.
You will ideally bring:
- Experience in sustainability, environmental services, waste and resource recovery, community engagement, local government or a related field.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills, with confidence engaging and presenting to a broad range of audiences.
- A practical, hands-on approach and willingness to participate in waste audits, bin tagging and other field-based activities.
- Strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
- Strong reporting and analytical capability, including sound Excel skills and other Microsoft programs with AI integration.
- A customer-focused mindset and the ability to identify opportunities to promote and expand sustainability services.
- The flexibility and willingness to travel throughout WA, including regional and remote locations when required.
- A valid Driver’s Licence.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check.
Formal tertiary qualifications are not essential – we’re particularly interested in your relevant experience, attitude, communication skills and passion for creating better sustainability outcomes.
