Based at our Narangba operation, this role provides operational leadership and support across a diverse geographic region including Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Bundaberg, Crestmead, and regional areas extending west to Rolleston and south into Northern New South Wales.
The Operations Supervisor will work closely with drivers, site personnel, customers, and contractors to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of used oil collection services while maintaining Cleanaway's high standards of safety, operational excellence, and customer service.
This role requires regular travel throughout the region, including scheduled site visits, inspections and operational support activities at our Toowoomba and Crestmead facilities, as well as ongoing engagement with drivers based in Toowoomba, Narangba and Crestmead.
Your new role:
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Conduct and document Toolbox Talks and daily HSE conversations.
- Lead and assist with incident investigations and corrective action implementation.
- Complete 1st Line of Defence Audits, Vehicle Pre/Post Check Audits and Fatigue Audits.
- Plan and coordinate Drug & Alcohol Screening programs.
- Conduct Workplace Inspections and Safety Operations Compliance Activities.
- Complete Safe Operations and Environmental Compliance assessments.
- Maintain accurate MyOSH reporting and monitor outstanding corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR), HVNL, EPA requirements and Cleanaway procedures.
- Support operational sites in maintaining audit readiness and housekeeping standards.
Fleet, Equipment & Asset Management
- Monitor vehicle utilisation, mileage, operating hours, and maintenance requirements.
- Coordinate vehicle inspections, defect management, and maintenance scheduling.
- Manage fire extinguisher testing and hose inspection programs.
- Conduct Tank Farm Visual Inspections and maintain supporting records.
- Support troubleshooting and operational equipment issues across the region.
- Monitor fleet availability and support operational continuity during breakdowns and maintenance events.
Operations Management
- Monitor daily collection volumes, fleet utilisation, and operational performance metrics.
- Manage and maintain tank inventory records, dip sheet reporting, and product storage data.
- Support rostering, leave coverage and workforce planning activities.
- Coordinate contractor management requirements and site inductions, including third-party logistics providers.
- Assist with budget management, cost control, and operational reporting.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities across the operation.
- Support oil movement planning and operational coordination across the East Coast network.
Driver Development & Operational Support
- Conduct operator ride-alongs and driver assessments.
- Review training requirements, competencies, and refresher training compliance.
- Provide practical coaching and support to drivers and operational personnel.
- Assist frontline teams with operational challenges, equipment issues and customer requirements.
- Promote a positive safety culture and strong operational discipline across all sites.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage customer service issues and collection escalations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and operational stakeholders.
- Support service delivery performance while ensuring safety and compliance requirements are maintained.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to achieve operational and customer outcomes.
Your skills and experience:
- Previous experience in transport, logistics, waste, environmental services, or a related operational industry.
- Demonstrated supervisory or leadership experience.
- A strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving capability.
- Previous truck driving experience or a sound understanding of heavy vehicle operations.
- Knowledge of pumping systems, hydraulic equipment, PTO systems, and loading/unloading operations.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections, and compliance activities.
- Understanding of HVNL, Chain of Responsibility and workplace safety requirements.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office and reporting system experience.
