Senior Specialist, Lead Data Engineer London
The Senior Specialist Data Engineer is responsible for the modelling, manipulation, transformation and loading of the Data Lake technology layers. The role will build knowledge of all data resources within Newday and prototype new data sources internally and external to Newday. Building a knowledge of all existing data manipulation within both data warehouse systems and within the business marts. The Senior Specialist Data Engineer will design and code data transformation and load processes through the various layers of the Data Lake using Big Data open technologies such as Kafka, Spark, Scala and associated AWS tooling.  The role will own all of the Data Content, manipulation, business rules and associated processes within this new environment. The Senior Data Engineer will work within the Data Engineering team to deliver a high volume, performant environment, structured to enable the Data Science roles to run modelling and insight activity and the core Data Warehouse users to build insight. The role will work with the business units to become a subject matter expert on the data within Newday to facilitate the work of the data scientists and data warehouse users and reduce their work load in data preparation. The role will prototype new data sources and data models as required.  The role holder will be responsible for ensuring that a strong data map is in place for the Data Lake, keeping abreast of all data sources and future sources of information, storage and ETL capabilities in Hadoop and all associated ‘Big Data’ technologies, AWS cloud technology advances, and recommending and testing the latest versions and products.   The role will be a champion of our CI/CD approach to development within an Agile framework.
