We need your help for the COVID-19 Response!

Expressions of interest are being sought from current casual, relief, sessional and seasonal Tasmanian State Service (TSS) employees to participate in interoperability arrangements in response to COVID-19. Submit your application as soon as possible!

Under the Interoperability arrangements, you will be deployed to any Agency where there is a current need to assist with the management or coordination of the COVID-19 response.

What is Interoperability?

Interoperability Arrangements do not relate to first response or the front line operational response to emergencies e.g. firefighting. The arrangements are primarily aimed at incident management and coordination, relative to response and recovery operations, and to non-operational functions performed by support agencies.

Who can apply?

All current casual, relief, sessional and seasonal employees are eligible to apply.

Do I need to have prior emergency management experience?

The short answer is ‘No’. The Interoperability Arrangements recognise that while employees may not have previous emergency management experience, they may possess skills, knowledge or experience that may be desirable to emergency management authorities and support agencies during the management and coordination of the COVID 19 response. Examples of these include:

  • Good Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Adaptable and flexible to changing work requirements

What skills are being sought?

The skills sets required can be divided into four categories:

Category A: Skills aligned to Response and Recovery Operations

Employees who are willing to perform a designated role with relevant direct experience and/or specific qualifications within an Incident Control Centre, Emergency Operations Centre, Emergency Coordination Centre, Recovery Centre, or a facility managed by a support agency.

Category B: Supporting/Administration skills

Employees with transferable skills who are willing to perform a supporting/administration role within an Incident Control Centre, Emergency Operations Centre, Emergency Coordination Centre, Recovery Centre, or a facility managed by a support agency.

Category C: Tasmanian Emergency Information Service – Operator

Employees who are willing to perform an operational call-handling role within the Tasmanian Emergency Information Service (TEIS).  No prior experience is necessary and the position is open to all levels.

Category D:  Tasmanian Emergency Information Service - Coordinator (TEIS)

Employees who are willing to perform a supervisory role to coordinate the operators and operations of the Tasmania Emergency Information Service.
